Good Girl

Funeral

 A Women's Retreat

Good daughter. Good wife. Good mother. Good friend.

Good fucking god, it's exhausting, right?

Smile more. Calm down. Don't be so sensitive. You've heard it your whole life, and you listened. You swallowed your anger, smiled through it, and bent over backward for everyone. And you're left frustrated, angry, and exhausted. Being good all the time sucks.

Feminine rage is sacred; it's what being "good" with no boundaries costs. This October, it finally gets somewhere to go.

"The things we were rewarded for as good girls in childhood are the very same behaviors that keep us small, trapped, and feeling like a minor character in other people's stories."

— Haley Magee

You have been so good at being good.

And you are so tired.

Fuck the roles you were handed before you could talk. Fuck smiling when you want to scream. Fuck being the last name on your own list, the woman who eats standing up, cries in the car, and calls it fine. You've kept everyone comfortable for so long that nobody thought to ask what it was costing you.

I built this retreat because I was her. I said yes to everything, kept everyone happy, and quietly resented most of it. I didn't need another bubble bath. I needed somewhere to scream.

Good Girl Funeral is 3 days on a farm outside Kansas City where you put her down. Twenty women, a rage pit, a eulogy, and a candlelit burial for the girl who kept you small. We bury her with love, because she was protecting you the best way she knew how. Then we spend the rest of the weekend finding out who the hell you are without her.

Stay in your pajamas the whole time. No makeup, no small talk, nobody who needs a single damn thing from you.

What happens

each day

FRIDAY

Rage + Release

  • Opening circle. You walk in with strangers. You won't leave with any.
  • The Rage Pit. Dance, throw paint, smash shit, hit, kick, scream until your voice gives out. Years of swallowed anger, out of your body in one day.
  • Somatic movement and yoga
  • We sit with the good girl, thank her for her service, and write her eulogy
  • Then we dress in black and bury her by candlelight at her funeral
  • Sound bath to close

Saturday

Break Down + Build Back

  • Slow, gentle movement to start
  • The deep workshops: how do you actually want to live? Who are you when nobody needs anything from you?
  • A real plan, so this weekend follows you home
  • Find your people. The women who'll check on you after this weekend and call you out the second you start shrinking again.
  • Disco/Sequin dance party. Dance until your feet hurt & move energy.

Sunday

Land + Leave Changed

  • Gentle movement and meditation
  • A long, slow walk through the farm
  • Closing circle
  • Leave as a woman, your old self wouldn't recognize

Don't take my word for it.
Check out @goodgirlfuneral on Instagram has the whole thing: the rage pit, sequin night, and the women who lived it.

Nothing is mandatory. Every experience is yours to take or leave. This is YOUR weekend.
We've had women in their twenties who were still deciding who to become, and women in their sixties who decided the becoming starts now. Nobody needs yoga experience. Nobody needs to arrive with a friend, a plan, or her life in order.
Show up. Everything else is handled.

This retreat is for the woman who's everything to everyone and nothing to herself. Mother wounds, sister wounds, anger that's been sitting in your body for decades, grief that never got its turn. Somewhere under all of it is a woman who used to play, who used to be loud, who took up space without apologizing. You miss her.

We've had women in their twenties who were still deciding who to become, and women in their sixties who decided that becoming starts now. No yoga experience required.

Your life doesn't need to be together. Just get your ass to Missouri.
